Ambit was an established businessman (store-owner) and a resident of Lasam, Cagayan. He was 39 years old, single, playful, free-spirited, and peace-loving.

At around 8 PM of 3 October 2010, a motorcycle without license plate carrying two men wearing full face helmets stopped in front of Ambit’s store. One of the men approached the store, shot Ambit on the abdomen, then turned away apparently to flee and make a runaway.

The hurt Ambit dropped to the floor and made urgent calls for help. Upon hearing him to be still alive, the man with a helmet turned back and shot Ambit again, this time hitting his chest.

The two men fled and Ambit was rushed to the nearby district hospital for initial resuscitation. But Ambit’s gunshot wounds were deadly, and he was immediately referred to Tuguegarao for more definitive management.

While being rushed to Tuguegarao, Ambit cried in deep pain for several times, until it eventually became apparent that his body couldn’t take it anymore and his strong determination to live couldn’t go beyond the seriousness of his wounds.

He lost a huge amount of blood and his blood pressure dropped along the way. They tried to revive him at the St Paul Hospital in Tuguegarao, Cagayan, only to die in less than an hour..

A bullet fired from a .45 caliber gun was recovered from his body. Another shell was found at the crime scene. Nothing was taken from his store.

Ambit’s death was cruel and unjust. It should not have happened, and should not have been allowed to happen in a humane and caring society that residents envision their community to be. We should not let this kind of violence happen again to anyone in our place!

It bears noting that the event took place at a time when there is an election gun ban. There are no checkpoints around Lasam.

As responsible and concerned citizens of our community, there are several things we can or must do:

First, the people responsible for the killing of Ambit should be apprehended and should be punished by the law of the land. They should not roam free and be of danger to other members of our community.

If you have information on the identity and whereabouts of the killers, or any other types of information that will help in the speedy resolution of the case, please report to our local police.

Let us regularly ask updates of police action and continue to cooperate on the matter.

Second, let us protect each other as a community. Let us know our neighbours and be wary of suspicious-looking people who come to our place.

Let us help to prevent another killing or violence happening in our midst. Cooperate with local police authorities to make our place safe, secure, and peaceful.

Be a member or supporter, and provide comments and/or information. When at the site, please avoid derogatory language and help make the e-atmosphere supportive and collaborative towards our shared goals.

I am raised in Lasam and studied there from Elementary to High School, although I don't personally know Ambit, I was shocked about this news. Its almost 3 years that I haven't visited my hometown.
